How to Leverage Transferable Skills

During your search, you may come across jobs that you don't have the experience for but if you look closer you might have more skills than you realize that makes you qualified. How you think and word these skills could land you a job in an entirely new industry!

These skills are called transferable skills. They are the skills that you have used throughout your career that can be used across various industries or sectors.

These skills are a HUGE selling point in your career change because they help you communicate the value that you can bring in a new role.

While looking at the skills required in the job description, think about the skills you have that match what the company is looking for. Highlight how you've used these skills in the past and how you could apply those skills in this new role.

Here are 3 transferable skills that you can leverage in your career change:

  1. Problem-solving

  2. Project Management

  3. Relationship Building

And how can you leverage these skills…?

If these skills are mentioned in the job description, show how you’ve used them in your current/previous roles.

During the interview, give evidence and explain how your transferable skills show that you’ve got what it takes to be successful in the role.

Don’t forget to include these skills in the summary and skills section of your LinkedIn Profile.
